Al Mourjan

One of the best known spots in Doha has had a facelift over the last few months and re-opened with a new name, new menu and whole new look.

Al Mourjan Type: Arabic
Date: 08/04/2008

Al Mourjan has taken over the Balhambar restaurant located on the Corniche next to the statue of Orry.   No doubt you’ve seen it, as it’s the only restaurant on the Corniche, and now its food matches its location – both are awesome!

Al Mourjan serves authentic Lebanese cuisine in its stylishly decorated indoor restaurant and a variety of international cuisine and shisha on its outdoor terrace, overlooking the beautiful Doha skyline. This time, I opted too enjoy the grandness of the indoor dining room and had my beautiful dinner inside. The completely re-done indoor area has been painted over in sparkling white with many tasteful Arabic touches and lovely flower bouquets.

It’s slightly more formal then the terrace, and makes a great spot for a romantic dinner or business lunch.
The selection of Lebanese dishes is extensive, offering far more than the traditional hummos, tabbouleh and mutabal. It also offers a selection of Rocca (Rocket ) salads, Lebanese Tajen, Harrah, and many other Lebanese authentic mezzas.

There are several types of Rocca salads – the 'traditional Lebanese Rocca' salad made with lemon, garlic, onion and sumak, the 'European' with parmesan cheese and the 'Al Mourjan' made with mozzarella. Tajen is a traditional dish from North Lebanon and contains sea bass, fried onions, sesame paste and pine nuts. It’s sweet and tangy at the same time and makes a yummy appetizer.

My favourite of the Mezzas was Harrah which is the Beirut version of Tajen. So, like the city, it’s a bit spicy.  Mixed with tomato paste and green peppers, it has an almost Indian flavour to it. I couldn’t get enough of it.

I also enjoyed a selection from a large list of BBQ's and the special Al Mourjan hammour (which is coated in special secret spices). The BBQ was tender and juicy, made from the finest cuts of Syrian lamb, and cooked to perfection by Head Chef Mohammed Al Kayal who’s been in the business of making fine Lebanese cuisine for more than 38 years.
Al Mourjan will definitely delight you with its location and food, and is now destined to become famous in Doha for both.

For Ramadan, Al Mourjan has created a special Iftar Buffet consisting of  28 different dishes to give you that special Ramadan experience.

Visiting Al Mourjan will always leave a nostalgic memory in you.
